my new year's resolution... to blog more!! I miss it, I enjoy it...and damnit I am just gonna do it!
Speaking in general, I am not one to make yearly resolutions. Plans are always in the works around here...
1. I want to quit smoking but do not want to kill someone along the way
2. I want to go to Montreal to visit my bro Wayne and the family ... preferably in the winter so a ski trip can be included.... but do not have the $$$ (or the time now that we have been blessed with monthly appearances once again ....explaining once again...we are broke and the opposing party is full of shit)
3. I want to plan and plant my garden early this year... but reality says I am a pro at killing plants and last year all my hard work ended up 6inches under snow less than 24hrs after planting...so yup it goes in the ground from seed.... or purchased from the local nursery
But looking forward to the year ahead there are many dreams...dreams that will with any luck at all, (not to mention work) will become a reality. Those I will keep under my Loony hat for now... cause I just don't wanna jinx myself by saying it OUT LOUD.
For the blog...well lets just say there better be some regular posting around here...or I am not clicking this link anymore!!!
more recipes and cooking tips ! I have just completed a 365 project on flickr. 365 days of Dinner with Loony givertake a few... mostly givertake the take out, the dead batteries or the I just plain forgot (toobusy) If I can say anything to anyone reading this...cook real food~! cut that box crap, already pre-made, preheated, pre-frozen, pre-flipping chewed food outta your diet. You want to maintain a healthy lifestyle...start with what goes in your mouth. You wanna complain you don't have time to cook a real meal.... I say BULLSHIT~! I can cook a full meal in less than 30mins and nothing comes from a box, nothing says just add water and NUKE for 30secs. There are tricks and tips to fantastic cooking and this year I plan on sharing!!!
more funny stories from the Shoeless Acres and life with Loony and the fam ... cause lets face it...around here the giggles never stop. If Fric and Frac and Freak are not up to something funny, I am positive one of the damn dogs have done something to make you giggle (not necessarily me giggle...but I am willing to share my pain)
and more Loony thoughts and confessions about the world around me. ie/ my excitement and involvement in a fantastic new book and the road travelled to get there ...basically waiting for the news...its here...its published and YES there is a loony face in those pages.
I had considered starting totally new... scrapping this blog for something new. A way to avoid previous posts which I did not want to share. A blog that would go public...past just the friends and family online...and into reality...where everyone knows. But in the end, the delete button was a heck of a lot easier than saying goodbye to some of my favorite thoughts and posts already here.
SO for any newcomers... this is my blog. I am a Loony Cannuck living in Northern Ontario. A stay at home...homeschool'n mama living a loony life and having a great time doing it.
A few of my favorites.... just cause

Moving On with LIfe....
So a few things to deal with besides...
1. getting back to my happy fucking clog (edit blog...if it was a clog and it was mine...you wouldn't be able to handle the heat...smell)
2. my dog is in heat, and at the present time..considering the real meaning of that word..I would like to know WhoTF calls it a heat..there is nothing warm about it...besides the raging feeling of needing something to make your insides not go fucking beserk (insert my own mama rage cause it was NEVER like this before children, and I cannot find anything funny about this quinky dink!)
3. can you see a theme in my mood yet...what i am gonna blame this whole fucking week on?
4. finding my way to laugh smile and remain my happy fucking loony self
5. this is me taking my moment to spew all the fucking crap before I start again...begin again....start a new day after a week of caca
first with the terrible, acknowledging and then opening once again my big mouth.....in a recent post I spoke of a boy who was missing, a boy I called a spoiled little bastard, as I take a moment to remember a boy who is no longer a local boy. This week, information confirming the boy has been lost, to life, to a future to the world. I remember the day I typed the words...spoiled little bastard, and I thought...not him the parents. In my post I blamed the parents, and suggested they should be held responsible. My post today...I feel terrible this child was lost, but in my bitchy spoiled little self...I am also angry and still blaming the parents...still saying ...wake the fuck up people and remember your parents. There is much more running thru my mind on this terrible tragedy..but I will respect the loss of a mama, and remember for a moment the spirit that was Brandon...a boy.
next...damn that dog for being a pain in my ass
after.....I have learned this week the power of delete makes for the p0wer of not being annoyed
now...i am working on my todo list...still failing but damn well trying on a schedule...hour by hour ...typical loony fashion of missing a full one and smiling...proud to say woo hoo I deserve it now that I wake up at 3:30am instead of 6"30 fucking am....
our unskewl'n loony ways of making our way thru the day...seems to actually be working....I am happy to report when they say "i am bored" and I say "lets do this' ....they say ok!!!They are both spelling words with ease, and Aspen's memory on the reading...is scary~!
so start'n next week...I am blog'n back to figuring out blog'n...maybe even sharing our screwd up loony schedule of our skewl'n ways, getting back to the basics of reminding you all to ...cook real fucking food, and celebrating the smile in our day with you all....etc bla bla bla....back to taking photos smiling and sharing shoeless fun~!

Definitions of A Loon
you know after reading my post yesterday I thought perhaps for anyone who hasn't figured me out yet I might define some of my thoughts. I would explain that this loon usually has blunt straight forward ways of saying things. I would explain I was not trying to be smug when I call myself a spoiled brat, but sometimes in a loony way that is how I feel.
I am spoiled to be living here in Canada, even more living here on My Shoeless Acres with my children and with my love. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, and the smiles of my children. Spoiled that we are in a safe place like Canada where I do not have to worry about my kids getting sick or a bomb going off.
But when I say spoiled, it is because I know there are sooo many people out their who cannot have what I have. Who have to fight for their rights to love, to be a family, to be recognized as anything but normal.
My life now has not come without it ups and downs...it did not suddenly appear before me..and I would like to think (without sounding spoiled) that it is a road in my life I have travelled to.
I have always been Loony, not always been Mama. I have always been the girl who did what she wanted but was taught that was not without hard work, and without understanding. I grew up in small town Ontario where there was not diversity, there was farmland, and family...small town attitudes with small town smiles. I moved on as a teen with big city lights sparkling in my eyes to a whole new world. I busted my ass to pay my own way, to see and do what I wanted when I wanted...because I could...I am a spoiled Canadian Girl. But thru my travels and my hard bust'n ass work I learned more about tolerance..I may have even taught others about tolerance. Go figure a girl from the small town ended up spending a decade working for people who were 'not' from the small town. People from all over the world, with all types of traditions, views and attitudes. Where I learned about the Chinese culture, the Hindu beliefs and the Italian ways of family life, I even became part of these families of different cultures, seeing my Hindu family go thru the 'dishonor' of love outside the religious (Color) realm, the pain of seperation, the joy of their family reconnecting despite their differences.
and despite all the differences, and the attitudes that came with each culture, including attitudes towards 'their own' it was always easy to find a smile, some love and understanding. its only when we can accept these differences, and celebrate the sharing of our smiles that we can come to understand and tolerate eachother. Perhaps I am spoiled...perhaps naive, but always holding on to hope for change
When I posted yesterday about people and their smiles that was not just a smile I was promoting, but acceptance and tolerance thru your smile. I think its time for us all to stand up and say...I agree...I disagree...I want my voice and my smile heard. This is something this spoiled brat needs to step up to, this is something we all need to step up to. I am still hoping for change in our world where we are all accepted, as a Mama I am still hoping for change for our children who need help, for families to be allowed to be families, to be recognized for what they are....love in action.
Haven't quite figured out yet what this spoiled Canadian Girl can do yet to take action...but when I do I will let you know!

thoughts of a spoiled brat
ok, so while I understand my thoughts may not be shared by the rest of the world, and that the fact remains I am a country girl from Canada that has always had the rights and freedoms extended further to me than others in the world today...I just have to say.......Thank goodness the Americans have voted in Barrack Obama...and Thank goodness this whole election crap is finally over.
BUT ..its over! how long will it last that I will have to hear about it now? how long before reality hits all the cheerleaders about change, how long before people realize that the new President is stepping into a job that is next to impossible to satisfy a nation as a whole, stepping into a position that is laddered with problems...money, worldwide, within its own nation?
My hope is that it will not be long, that the hope of change will remain but that reality will set in. My hope is that people get past the fact the new President is black, and that it is some sort of miracle. Please do not get me wrong, I feel those people who have grown up in the world facing set backs due to the color of their skin, those who have been begrudged for where they came from, and who thought they would never see the day. I know that I am from a privileged life in the countryside with a mom and dad and food on the table, while we were far from rich...we were... as I tell my children rich with love, and smiles. But I also know that today people are begrudged and punished in society for more than their skin color, they are judged for their lifestyle, their income, their situations which are out of their own control and reality.
My thoughts...its almost 2009...the new world did not begin today, we are still in the same world as we were yesterday. The new world does not begin with Obama, it begins with each person that walks out their door in the morning and chooses to share a smile or a helping hand to those they see or walk by regardless of their differences. While there are many people of color in tears of joy today, celebrating the fact Obama was elected, there are still millions more who are not black...but still a 'minority' To me the majority of minority are those who are wondering how they will pay their bills this winter, wondering where their dinner comes from tomorrow, and wondering if they will ever have a right to stand up in front of their families to say 'i do' with the rights that come with that celebration, or the right to be recogonized as a family without the stamp of a court paper.
I am not celebrating the first elected 'black' President of the USA today, I am celebrating the change of politics, the hope of the future, the promise of tomorrow. I am also however holding my breath on the realities of those promises...politics at the end of the day are still politics.
I dream...that colors are only art in our day, that people are the focus, that our children have a stronger, safer and greener future. That people will take their heads out of their asses and look around the neighbourhood they live in....because that is reality that is the world you live in and that is what we need to take care of .... You voted for change...are you willing to help?!
I would like to think I am~! Spreading the power of the smile, sharing the warmth of my home, and the beauty of the world around me.
Stand up my friends, share a smile today not because Obama was elected but because those around you are ready for a change...lets help make that change~!

Under consideration and Construction
So I have been avoiding my blog lately cause I just haven't known what to do with it. What the hell am I writing about? and for what? I am a talker, a babbler, and since childhood have always loved writing so I could probably go on and on here every day like Seinfeld about absolutely nothing. I still don't even really get the whole blogging thing really, and the upload things drive me crazy.....but luckily now I have got the FLickr button and my pics are just a click away...ahhhh.
So I have considered doing the big delete thing here and starting over...but then I thought 1. too much work and I am feeling lazy today
2. this is about life on the acres so if your are here reading it ... you must get something out of it right? and my ramblings can't be all that bad...not to mention the easy scroll down and pass the crap factor LOL so past blogs stay
There is a bit of a change though... a sort of coming out for my blog. It is no longer something that I just share with my strangerfriends, I have now told a couple people...shout outs to my two TO cousins, my internet buddies and people I love....Allison and Crystal. But today I am going to email the link to one of my Bff's Melanie as well. She has recently asked about some recipes, and is trying to explore cooking real meals for herself and her young daughter BB so to save from retyping recipes I am going to bring her here...............hello Mel!!!!!! I am sooo proud of her LOL eating was always a thing with Melanie when we first met (I love you!) She would not eat any pasta sauce with the slightest chunk or spice ( a crime in my kitchen) and literally dunked a noodle at a time into the sauce to eat it???? then there was the kraft dinner where you had to buy two boxes two kinds..one for the noodles and one for the cheese! Now Melanie has turned a corner and eating good food with chunks, spices and even hot sauce ! which as a side note I finally managed to find some decent hot sauce locally! The last time I went to visit with Mel down south in an urban city I dragged the kids into three different Korean Grocers in the rain to find my hot sauce and they were all sold out!!!! So the recipes will keep on coming and hopefully Mel will be here too to start cooking!
New Album to look for on Flickr...what's for supper!
Anywho I might just double dip and double blog today who knows?! do some rennos here and see what i can come up with and get my brats to sit and do some math!!!

Welcome
Well today I guess will be the day I expose myself to you all and "come out of the closet" and into the world of blogging. I considered waiting till I had "mastered" the site here, but that may take a while. LOL...between the cookies and the java's I am lucky I got signed in today!!!!
So here we go!
Yesterday was my first winter drive of the season. I drove three hours to Wasaga Beach to pick up my bonus son Alex for the weekend. It amazes how different the weather can be here!! We left home in sunny skies with pretty snow falling and the highways clear. One hour down the road....snow covered roads and falling snow everywhere. My original plan was to hit the beach, stop for lunch with a friend, break my ali-byrd from school at one and head on home before dark. But by the time I got to the beach...where the skies were once again clear and sunny, I decided to skip lunch and get the hell back home...knowing I would be driving through the crap again!!! Now of course I had to wait for twenty minutes at the school before they called Alex out of class though...new secretary in the office. She was quite concerned that his note from home stated that Alex was going to his dad's for the weekend and I was obviously not "dad" so I stated to her once again calmly, no I am Alex's stepmom, but if you are concerned...dial xxx-xxxx his mothers cell phone and confirm who I am. Of course though it was lunch, and she was away from the phone...augh. So I politely pointed out to the secretary that if she checked his file I am listed on there as the #3 emergency contact, and therefore I am known to the school. STILL NOT GOOD ENOUGH! So I requested she call home to his Nana (#2 on the list) which she did, "excuse me Mrs. Baverstock I have "annette" here to pick up Alex, is that known to his mom? and could you give me a description of Annette to verify it is her????" WTF??? I then lost my patience and instructed my kids (the five and six year old) who were sitting patiently in the office to sit outside the office. I placed my drivers licence on the desk and said "this should verify for you who I am" augh!!! This is not the first time I have been to the school and never before have had my identity questioned. It bugs me because it is not a security issue to me it is a closeminded bored secretary that figured I had the time to mess around!! I am guessing if I went into the school with 'normal hair" and not the dreads...would there be an issue???? So to top it off, when I was finally cleared to go and waiting for Alex (still with my kids waiting patiently!!!) the secretary says "excuse me but the vice principal would like to speak to you in the office" so here we go. He proceeded to apologize for the inconvenience, and although he was sure he recognized me the secretary was new to the office and following protocal. Also with the times they cannot always be sure communication between separated parents are ideal, therefore they were only protecting Alex. To which I replyed "ya cause I look like a crazy with two little kids here to kidnap him???" He went on to explain how he has a great relationship with Mom and Gramma here at the school and Adam is a fantastic student. MY reply...."well I hope you aren't taking Adam out of class cause I don't know him, I am here to pick up my son ALEX" Finally after 45mins Alex came down the hall, back in the car and three hours back home....through the snow, sleet and rain I have my beach boy home till Sunday...woo hoo!!!!
